          Dan Scavone joined the CIAC as an Executive Staff member in the summer of 2019.
He joins the CIAC after a lengthy career in education and most notably as an Athletics Administrator. A graduate of Holy
Cross High School in Waterbury, Scavone went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Springfield College in 1984, a master’s
two years later at Southern Connecticut State University, and a 6th-year degree in Educational Administration from Sacred
Heart University. He began his career as a Physical Education/Health Teacher and Coach before getting his first athletic
administration position as Woodland Regional High School’s first full-time Athletic Director/Assistant Principal. He
would go on to serve as an Athletic Director at Danbury High School, Nonnewaug High School, and Berlin High School,
and also had tenure as the principal at his alma mater, Holy Cross. Scavone went on to serve as Commissioner of the
Central Connecticut Conference for two years before coming to CIAC.

 

            Scavone has been involved in a variety of leadership positions at both the league and state levels. Prior to becoming an
Executive Staff Member at CIAC, he has served on the CIAC Eligibility Review Board, Boys Basketball Committee,
Michael’s Cup, and CIAC Chemical Health Committee, and in 2018 assumed the positions of the Boys and Girls
Basketball Assistant Tournament Director. At the league level, Scavone served as both the Vice President and President of
the Naugatuck Valley League. His contributions as an Athletic Director were many at both the State and National Levels.
He earned the designation of Certified Master Athletic Administrator with the National Interscholastic Athletic
Administrators Association (NIAAA) in 2014 and was selected to be part of the National Teaching Faculty of the NIAAA
taking part in not only teaching Leadership Training Courses but also taking part in two course revisions. In 2014 he
received the NIAAA State Award of Merit. Scavone also served as President of the Connecticut Association of Athletic
Directors (CAAD) from 2014-2016.

 

            Currently, Scavone has numerous responsibilities as a CIAC Executive Staff Member. He is the Sports Administrator for
Field Hockey, Wrestling, and Boys and Girls Lacrosse. He is the Staff Liaison to all the Officials Groups in all sports
statewide and the Assistant Tournament Director for Boys Basketball. Other responsibilities include serving as the Staff
Liaison to the Seasonal Limitations Committee, and he is the NFHS/CIAC State Sanctioning Coordinator.
